Getting Old
Yesterday was my birthday. As my wife and Kaia were preparing to put candles on a cake, she asked him, "how many candles should we put on papa's cake?" He thought about it and said, "he's old...maybe we should put fourteen."

The Best Part of Waking Up
Last night I told Kaia how much I enjoy cuddling with him in the moments between deep sleep and waking up. In those moments this morning, he came to me, snuggled under the covers and hugged me very tightly and, with his eyes still closed, said:
We then slept for another 30 minutes together. Happiness truly is a four year old.
Papa, I love to cuddle with you in the morning too.

Dreams
Just minutes ago:
Kaia: We walked so much today from the game (we went to the Mariners game today). Time to take a rest. I think that I'll have digger dreams and, maybe...shark dreams. But shark dreams are kind of scary. So maybe I'll have crab dreams or lobster dreams. Yeah, that'll be good.

Kaia Grammar
Heard today on the way to the grocery store:
papa: We need to find some dill for the salmon I'm baking tonight.
kaia: Dill? What's dill, papa?
papa: Well, dill is an herb, like basil. You know, like what we ate last night.
kaia: An herb? What's an 'herb'....OH, I know what an herb is! It's like that book we got from the library about nouns and herbs. Right papa?
